Program Description
The Crete-Monee Early Learning Center (ELC) Preschool Program is designed to serve children who are academically at-risk. Parents of 3 and 4-year old children who are not yet eligible to attend kindergarten for the upcoming school year may contact the ELC for additional program information.

What Does “Academically At-Risk” Mean?
Academically at-risk means concerns in major areas exist that may impact a child’s academic development. These areas include: motor skills, social-emotional skills, speech and language skills, concept development, physical development, health, behavior, attention, family situations, income status.

Preschool Screening
The preschool screening consists of three parts:
  1. Developmental Indicators for the Assessment of Learning (DIAL-4). Students are tested in several performance areas – Motor, Concepts, and Language – using a station approach. Children are tested by different examiners at each station. The entire test is completed in 1 to1.5 hours.
  2. Vision and Hearing Screening
  3. Parent Questionnaire and Interview

At the conclusion of the screening, the results, recommendations, and possible next steps are shared with the parent.

Screenings are conducted at the Early Learning Center in August, October, December, February, and May.
